Self Struggle

Self Struggle

"Mujahida" means to fight and struggle against an opposing force, and when no specific opposing force is indicated but the word mujahida is used in absolute terms, it means that it is an universal and holistic struggle, this is the nature of the struggle that the believer has to do in this world. He also has to fight against Satan, who threatens him with the harm of every good thing and tempts him with the benefits and pleasures of evil. He also has to fight with his own self which is always pushing him to make him a slave to his desires. We have to fight with all those people from our home to the world, whose ideas, trends, principles of conduct, customs, civilization and laws, economy and society, religion are in conflict with the truth. And we have to fight against this state which is independent from obeying God and runs its own command and spends its energies in promoting evil instead of good. From every moment, and not in any one field, but on every front in every aspect of life. Regarding this, Hazrat Hasan al-Basri says, "In al-Arqaal lijahid wa ma zarb yuma min al-dhar basif" A man does jihad even if he never wields a sword even once.

In other words, Allah Ta'ala is not demanding this Mujahidah from you because He needs your help to establish and maintain His divinity, and without this fight of yours, His divinity will not work. Rather, He instructs you to engage in this struggle because this is the path of your progress. Through this means, you can get out of the cycle of evil and error and go on the path of goodness and righteousness. This will give you the strength to be the bearer of good deeds in this world and be entitled to God's paradise in the hereafter. You will not be doing God any favors by fighting this battle. You will forget yourself

Whoever strives, strives for his own benefit. Surely Allah is independent of all the worlds. 29:6
